Recently, when I was preparing to bid adieu to an old computer (checking to make sure that it did not have any files on it that I might regret deleting), I came across a folder of old invoices dating from 1995. I paused nostalgically to see just what kind of work I was billing for so long ago and (alas!) how little I was charging for it.
What was I billing for in 1995 -- search engine marketing? The invoice was for keyword selection, META tag development and submissions. Yipes!
Little did I know at the time that 11, almost 12 years later I would still be doing SEO. The tools, tactics and search engines have changed, but goal is the same -- making sites visible on search engines. Who knows what the next 10+ years will bring.

I like going to Alexa and viewing the changes in web sites. I find it interesting in the changes on the internet also. As SEO changes, url, meta tags and codes change you can see the designs changes also.

It seems like those things, keywords, meta tags, and submissions, are still a crucial ingredient in the seo stew even today. In regards to Judy's comment, I like to check out archive.org for old versions of popular sites. The 1996 version of yahoo is a great example...

The practice of SEO officially started way back in 1996. But not all are aware or even familiar in this application at that time. At that time, it's not about on ranking on google rather on Alta Vista as it was the main search engine way back.

Most of my time has been spent reading while this blog has been 'on hold'. Reading, beta-testing and SEO experimenting is where my ongoing learning comes from. I LOVE writing, but I made a concious decision to put that on hold a couple of months ago.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the procedure of enhancing the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" search results. If a site is visible in major search engines, it will receive more surfers from the search engine.
