Blogging Is Focus of MassWIT Networking Event

MassWIT's Thursday, May 12 networking event will focus on blogging. I'll be sharing with this group of women professionals in business and technology some of the lessons that I have learned writing my new book -- Business Blogs: A Practical Guide. In writing the book, my co-author Bill Ives and I interviewed over 70 bloggers to get a perspective on how individuals and organizations are using blogging to further their missions. In most discussions on blogging, the focus is either on a few examples or on the technology. I believe that this presents too narrow a point of view. The blogging technology simply enables the user to creatively present ideas.

I'm looking forward to this event. It should be fun!

Amanda, I attended the talk last night and enjoyed it very much. Came away with some good ideas for some of my clients.

Since one of the benefits of blogging you mentioned was showcasing expertise, I thought you and others might be interested in knowing about a free event next Tuesday, May 17, at Boston University's School of Communication.

Its title is "Promote Thyself." The speaker is Fern Reiss, CEO of Expertizing.com. Fern teaches people how to get more media attention for their businesses.

She'll be talking about how to get recognition as subject-matter expert, specifically getting interviewed or quoted as a pundit by the media.

The event is being held by the American Society of Business Publication Editors and is open to the general public. Full info is at http://www.asbpe.org. (I'm on the board of the Boston/New England chapter of ASBPE.)
